Time Flies

Many years I have observed...
the world pass in front of me.
I waved, of course....slowly, as
life, lives, and time seem to flee.

Peeps looked and stared at me--
peeked right into my face.
Is ogling all they had to do?
Like I'm from another race?

True, one arm was shortened at birth
which made me somewhat lopsided
Not to mean my life saw no mirth...
!!! like when a man asked "What's the time?"

I pointed my long arm at three-ish,
my shorter arm at seven.
(Real time--grin?  quarter after eleven!)
He missed his flight. Sheeeesh!.

Lord knows I tried to make amends
but at that moment I heard one say,
"This, buddy, is where your life ends."
Tossed me into closet with old junk-friends.
I waited patiently through long day.

With short arm I scratched my face,
as long arm kept twitching, like every second.

Listening to noises all about me,
constant sounds, "clicking, clicking"...
noticed yellow-painted sign over door:

  1. I don't think I have seen you here before, Steve. This poem was amazing -- I am typically not fond of unclear poems but it had enough in it to keep me there. Is it fiction, or do you have one arm shorter than the other?

I did a poem on people staring that relates to this in a weird way.

The humor, cynicism and deep observations stood out fantastic in the story.

I scrolled down and saw all the Centered Poems (not my favorite) which seem your habit. I wrote a poem on them here, if you are interested. Why do you always center your lines -- hard on my old eyes.

I'll be following you -- hope you don't mind this sort of comment (tis my style).

  2. LOVE "this sort of comment"! It tells me you have read it. Re centering, I just liked the "look"...but will certainly try another way.
    Thank you.
    PEACE!

  3. Great. So, do you indeed have one arm shorter than another or are you giving someone else a voice?

    1. I had "become" a clock for some 25 minutes...

Have two long arms which have been wrapped around a violin for 74 years. Started fiddling at age 5.

In all this time I've never seen--or heard of--a short-armed violinist. (Left-handed maybe...or three fingered. But no way an "elbow-with fingers" could play a standard violin...)

    2. Didn't know you were a Violinist.
So this is fictional -- good fiction.
      79 years-old -- surprising -- you talk like a 40 year-old . Compliment.
I work with 79 yo all day long --- you know what I mean.
      Great poem

  4. smiles....i like how you allude to the clock with one arm shorter than the other...and personified the clock as well as a watcher of everyone else...interacting but not quite in a personal way...hope you are well friend..

  7. Time flies..so true! Even I have been watching those school going kids now, I grew up so fast that I didn't realize.
    I love those words.

"Peeps looked and stared at me--
    peeked right into my face.
Is ogling all they had to do?
    Like I'm from another race?"

ha ha..couldn't agree more..people are always curious!

    "Many years I have observed...

    and this is my favorite!

    take care :)

  8. WOW! Ya know? I write stuff, usually in a hurry, and ALWAYS --with few exceptions--believe that no one, NOBODY would ever enjoy to read. Then along comes a Peep who I don't even know to give me encouragement with kind words.
    Thank you,

    1. You know I am not very fond of poems at all but I read yours anyway because sometimes I find real jewels in there like:

True, one arm was shortened at birth
      which made me somewhat lopsided

and then you just follow it with a visual adventure. I actually found myself shortening one arm and scratching my face.

      Damn you!

    2. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Dear Ces...I would hate you too, except I only hate humans, and all things created, soooo.....

And I know why you don't like my "poetry"...it's because it is not good, I only spend less than half hour scribbling--yes, hand-penned--then edit while typing, almost never posting, prefer to dump them.

Then once a week or so, I post something, just to keep your hatred from weakening.

Hey, it's WAYYY past my bedtime...no, WAIT, it's not 3AM yet. I've gotta quit this blogging stuff, it's making me old--grin!
