SILENCE

New color scheme and header is
gift from a blogger friend.
Thank you, Dulce. I like!

(Dedicated to my wonderful Peeps!)

Other than golden,
sweet noise is
silence beholden

For meditation,
perfect prose
is a pleasant void

Wonderful healing!
Like stealing
a moment from God

The loudest prayer
He will hear
is my secret thought

While I contemplate,
such sweetness
as in God and YOU!

  5. Hi Steve!

I like the new header and the look of your blog!

As for haiku, why not? Usually, the scheme is 5-7-5....in syllables....you have 5-3-5, which I think is fine.

The original count is because in Japanese, it is 'said' in one breath. Or, it is read in one fell swoop. And funny enough, in Japanese, it is done in a monotone...no stress or accent on any words. It's an embodiment of a thought or something similiar...

But I think you count is natural, considering what you are writing about. I see nothing really wrong about this.

Of course, I was very much tied into the 5-7-5 count when I first started writing haiku, but then again, why don't you try the 5-7-5 count and see where it takes you? Those 4 extra syllables in the second line might give you room for expansion of thought. Then again, I have read haiku that were shorter and very good ones they were.

  8. Nice! Loving the shirt form- and a nice sentiment too- the power of prose eh? What would we do without it- maybe your saying something here about the poet being revered- how we hold each other in high esteem- because we know the power of what we hold and share

  9. Whether it's haiku or free verse, this is one of my instant fave poems of yours, Steve. I love the moment stolen form God, and 'sweet noise is silence beholden'--good stuff.

  10. I love the header and message..very meaningful.

I write a lot of haiku, not only in 5-7-5 but also in 3-5-3 structure. So I can appreciate your offering today..that silence is golden indeed ~

  11. I'm open to haiku in all forms; I write in 5-7-5 and in open haiku with no set syllable count. The important thing is to get the idea across in three lines, and your haiku set here does just that. Nice.

  12. I love your "loudest prayer" stanza. I, too, am more familiar with the 5-7-5 formula. Formulas are one reason I have trouble with poetry...I like free flowing words.

  13. IZDIHER!
I glad you like what you see.
    Hot-looking blog?--grin!
    Thanks!

    OCEAN GIRL:
There are some theological quotes about love which rule out the importance of ANYTHING else. Ever! (They are coming...)

    BRIAN:
Thank you for 'fixing' my link to dVerse. You a nice guy, fellow Peep!

    LADY NYO:
NOW! I really appreciate the haiku information, and will try again with 5-7-5... (a 3-syllable line IS difficult!) It's like saying “I love you”...with nothing but a “grunt”!--a grinning grunt, that is! A special “thank you” for weighing in here!

    ARTI:
Gotta go see who you are! Thanks for dropping by.

  14. POEMS OF HATE AND HOPE:
Ya know, I really needed this analyzing—seriously! To “get to know myself”...I know that sounds funny, but I enjoyed your take on what I write. Yes, the written word is powerful, but even more strength comes from out of the human heart (which can be influenced and inspired by prose.
    PEACE!

    HEDGEWITCH:
Thanks for 'chairing' this week's Open Link Night. It is a WONDERFUL place to be, as all who are here realize!!! And you—so busy to answer all the Peeps, are just too kind, taking time to address my effort here. A humble “Thank You!”

    HEAVEN:
You always are there—instructing with softness. SO nice!

    CHRIS:
Thank you. But I'd like to learn to write in the format first—and THEN break the rules. You are supportive. Thank you!
    PEACE!

    MAGPIE:
Me too...love “free-flowing” words! Once-in-a-while it is beneficial for me to practice discipline—in writing AND in other stuff—grin!
Happy to 'see' you here. Thanks!

  19. Haikus to me are a form of intellectual snobbery. I sometimes cannot understand them. Sorry. I am provincial, simple and downright plain. I resonante to poems like:

"I think that I shall never see,
A poem lovely as a tree..."

You think you can "out-stupid" that title? I dare you!

  20. Wonderful healing..

    Thanks for coming.

    WAYSIDE WORD GARDEN!
Thanks for 'lovely' comment! It is violin...just slightly distorted, because of width of header.

    CLAUDIA!
Hey, this was fun...might try it the 'right' way one day. Broke the monotony of same ole, same ole! Thanks for your supportive words!

    CES ADORIO!
Hey, Artist-Girl! I just having some fun. YOU do that all the time. (Well, so do I—grin!)
God and CES make trees, and nuts! I like 'em ALL, that's the truth!

All through school I was voted “Most Likely the one who could 'out-stupid' the STUPID—grin!!!”
    --Neither Intellectual
--Nor a Snob (as far as I can see!)
    PEACE!

    DULCE!
Ah! She, of the fancy bottom tooth speaks again! Thank you SO much, my friend. Missed your Avatar—and you—around these parts.
Thank you for the nicest words. Oh...check is “in the mail”. (Or IS it? I've forgotten!) But thank you again for your work, it is really appreciated.
    Love and PEACE!

    LAURIE KOLP!

  22. HYPERCRYPTICAL!
I went to your blog, and left my scent...I'd like to say "lovely, lovely", but it was not! Good poem, but sad 'story'.
I'll look into more of your stuff tomorrow--it IS LATE!!!!
    PEACE, Anna!!

  23. The stanza about "stealing a moment from God" was bliss, Steve. And the "loudest prayer" being your "secret thought" is spot on.

The World shouts in one ear: Hate, Judge, Buy More Stuff, Chase Your Own Tail To Acquire Money.

God whispers, and when we are in a peaceful place, that's when we hear that still, small voice. I loved this so much, bless you. Amy

Right, or not...poems are ABOUT feelings! (And other things--grin!) Now....BREATHE!

    SHARP LITTLE PENCIL!
It is a form of honor to be quoted, and so...? THANK you! And YESSS! that 'still' small voice--which says EVERYTHING!

  26. Dear Steve, so long since I've swung by. But... what a precious moment I've chosen. This quiet silence that creeps in slowly and reminds us of the beautiful and meaningful in life... what would we be without it?

Thank you for the beautiful words... and for what they mean.

  27. NEVINE! When I spot your Avatar (sigh) I feel like a kid again. (Hope nobody expects me to explain that--grin!)

    Possibly the sparseness of our
blog-meetings is why they are the more tasty...enjoyed!

    Thank you!
    Sincere LOVE and PEACE.
