You special Peep-Friends:
'Time' (which I don't even believe exists--grin!) caught up with me this week--big time--and I promise to get around to visiting everyone this weekend.
LOVE and PEACE!

TEN MILES OF SANDY BEACH
WHICH BELONG TO THE WORLD
Early settlers of Naples Town
thriving, smiling, some in frown--
either by sheer design or
holy inspiration,
conspired
with imagination,
apolitical ingenuity.
Assuring 'in perpetuity'
that all people of the universe
would share in sweet unity
ten miles of sand and surf
From rise and set of sun,
before and after
claim made by no one
should be henceforth
honored or scored.
In naming that sandy place
where Peeps forever meet
they voted face-to-face,
platted it...FIRST STREET!

Note: Imagine owning a home on the beach worth $18 million, and the beach in front of your house, is owned by everyone...
What foresight shown by Naples founders, 100 years ago!

I've played more than 100 weddings on this beach.
What a beautiful pic. .Beach pics are always awesome.
ReplyDeleteLovely poem as usual .
no-one should own a beach, no-one can own a beach... nature is there for all to enjoy... owned by God alone. and by the hearts of those who find solace and comfort in it.
ReplyDeleteVery, very smart and intuitive founders indeed, what a gorgeous picture!!! Wow!!!!!!
ReplyDeletei am fairly certain i have been there...and i agree with shadow, but that sadly is not the case...good on them for making it available to all...
ReplyDeletethe beach should not belong to anyone, but should belong to everyone. I like the poem, and the picture.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I'm going to be among the minority. I think public beaches, lakes, forests, and such are wonderful places. I also think that, just like people have a right to "own" their little bit of suburbia, any land not deemed public should be available to purchase. Just sayin'. Wait let me step down from my soap box. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday!
beautiful post i love the picture too!
ReplyDeleteHere in Oregon, our entire 400+ miles coastline belongs to the public. Cool stuff.
ReplyDeleteIZDIHER:
ReplyDeleteYou write nice words
Thank you!
SHADOW:
I agree with YOU!...except I believe EVERYONE already has a God-given right to 'beach' and 'nature'.
GABI!:
I like when you write “Wow!!!!!!”
BRIAN:
Photo is in a place called Loudermilk Park...a popular place for weddings, with 'gazebos', and shelter with food, etc. and a lotta beach!
OCEANGIRL:
Howdy! I've not been by—I will. Thank you.
MAGPIE:
Yes, you make a good point. Of course there IS no private 'ownership' anyway. It is ownership of the 'rights' e.g., to use, to extract oil, pump water, etc. ALSO this beach at Naples IS 'public' because ti was made a Street, even though no street exists. Any more than that is for the lawyers—grin!
PEACE, girl!
CHICK FLICK GIRL:
Succinctly stated! Thanks.
MONKEY MAN:
Did not know that. Really? I LIKE!!! Thanks for the info...
My greatest love - the ocean! Love this Steve. <3
ReplyDeleteLike so many, i am another lover of the sea....love the ideas in this one Steve, and such a wonderful pic. :-)
ReplyDeleteGINNY:
ReplyDeleteIf you have never flown over the ocean--you'll LOVE it! Meeting Peeps everywhere you go, every airport, evey restaurant, bar (well, not for me--grin!) every walk around the block. Since I know you are "that kind of girl" (who is outgoing with peeps) I KNOW this will be one of the big highlights of your life
Be safe
Be always nice
Be 'Ginny'
PEACE!
Steve
