DEVIANT ART
PHEROMONES
I yearn.
I return.
Discern
burning
heart-flame.
what is,
which fills this space
where I work and play
all--and each--day?
exhale
expel
can feel it,
and smell
pheromonally-enhanced
nitrogen, oxygen.
Breathe, steve,
entranced!
Inhaling
secreted
attractant--
heaven-scent, (sigh)
overwhelms.
finally have
wholly lived
wholly loved
good-bye!
now die?

Since childhood, scents have been my intriguer--love country odors; skunk, wild onions, chocolate milk, sour cream, musk, a city in early morning, sweat, perfumes. On an elevator I sometimes entertain strangers by naming their perfume. Hence, when I discovered a blog post titled Pheromones, a short poem began to form.
ReplyDeletePheromones:
"A chemical substance produced and released into the environment by an animal, especially a mammal or an insect, affecting the behaviour or physiology of others of its species".
Thanks for teaching me a new word, Steve :)
I have always been more than intrigued by smells ... to the point of contemplating to have a "nosectomy" done :)
its funny, i got a new soap that is supposed to be phermone enhanced---what the heck...
ReplyDeletescent has been a huge thing for me as well...def plays into an appreciation
or makes me inquisitive....and can be a huge turn off as well....
Are you a skunk?
ReplyDeleteYour chemical substance affects behaviour of other of your species.
Can you tell how my body smell like? Scent of rain forest?
scents go directly into the emotional sector without passing the brain logic... so familar scents can transport us everywhere within milli seconds...i find that so fascinating...cool on recognizing certain perfumes... i'm using bulgari eau the rouge... it has pink pepper and redbush tea ingredients...loving it...smiles
ReplyDeleteMy favorite scent is of my beloved.
ReplyDeleteHe always smells so good to me.
I DON"T like the smell of skunks but I did like your poem, Steve.
My best wishes to you for a good day
