ALL TOGETHER NOW, GIRLS AND BOYS!
Give us this day...
our daily bread,
O Lord above.
The man just said
our mission, maybe
...suicide
We are ready!
"Take this bread
and coffee cup.”
What he say?
"Eat ye--drink up!
Be unified.”
All is quiet
in this room.
(Did Willow write
about a broom,
our crumbs?
--she lied!)
We're just a bunch of bums
wearing vests of bombs
marching to our doom
into the city of light
bring dark before night
Our mission...
suicide
To wake up, 5th Day of Advent and reed your poem made my eyes wide open and my heart cry.
ReplyDeleteImagine, you are telling the truth.
Suicide bombers surely have their last meal before they leave on their horrible mission. "Bring dark before night."
World gone wrong, who stole those souls?
awe ..this is right but sad .
ReplyDeletethis season bring the light and the dark... good write, steve!
ReplyDeleteWow, sad take-
ReplyDeleteI got up in a place of anxiety, working on it w/ writing and comments! thanks.
intense and vivid steve o...particularly the last stanza...would they be sombre in their eating hmm i wonder...
ReplyDeleteYou went from maybe suicide to certain suicide... chilling write.
ReplyDeleteWhat I'm seeing here is the everyday drudgery of a life not well lived can be a form of suicide.
ReplyDeleteIsn't is amazing that words can say so much to so many different people?
Thought provoking write, Steve...full of powerful metaphors...nice to have you at Magpie...
ReplyDeleteYes, chilling. Suicide bombers and last meals ... incredible interpretation of the art.
ReplyDeletea bit of a mocking tone to last suppers...as if they have anything in common
ReplyDeleteone redemption the other destruction
but I thought you did a good job pointing out a question of the mind
Steve this is quite chilling....great take on the prompt....hope all is going well for you these days! :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat minds think alike! Hope all is well with you and yours!
ReplyDeletePowerful one, Steve. I"ve wondered about the last days, hours, minutes and seconds of a suicide bomber's life. Could anything be more horrible?
ReplyDeleteWow, this one was poignant! Whew, I had to savor it a few times.
ReplyDeleteHow much I've been missing here... Glad to be back reading every new single piece... you are a genius man, you are!
ReplyDeleteA reminder of the insanity of zealots who encourage the weak to follow.
